Get Out From Under Overwhelming Credit Card Debt by Contacting a Credit Card Counseling Service

Kathleen Hobbs asked:

I probably don’t need to tell you this…but the economy is in the toilet. Yes, there are signs that it is slowly beginning to turn around, however, in the meantime, more and more people are reaching for their credit cards in order to make ends meet. Did you know that the average American carries a five thousand dollar balance on their credit card! That is an eye opening number…not to mention scary! If you are overwhelmed with high credit card debt, and don’t know where to turn…don’t worry…there is help available.

First of all, do not be embarrassed if you need help getting your finances in order. You are not the first person to get into financial trouble and trust me, you won’t be the last. Before I continue, it should be stated that in order for you to get out of debt you must be willing to make a commitment. A commitment to a sound financial future! You will need to change your spending habits and make saving money your number one priority! You will also need to make a commitment to buying only what you NEED and not what you WANT (there is a BIG difference!). You must promise yourself that you will only use your credit card in emergency situations…no ifs, ands, or buts about it! Breaking bad habits is not an easy thing to do, especially when it comes to spending money. However, if you want to live a stress and debt free life changes will need to be made.

So what can you do if you are overwhelmed with debt? Well, believe it or not, there are people who want to help you. The first step towards your new debt free financial future is to contact a REPUTABLE credit card and debt consolidation counseling service or agency. See, I told you there was a silver lining! Now right about now you are probably thinking that you don’t have the money to pay a service to help you. Well, the good news is that a REPUTABLE credit card counseling service will charge you very little (usually a small monthly administrative fee of about $30). The key is to find a counseling service that is NON-PROFIT!

Financial services that are FOR PROFIT can be quite costly…so it is very important that you keep the words NON-PROFIT in mind! Don’t fall victim to telemarketers, flyers that arrive in the mail or jazzed up websites that promise to fix your finances in no time at all as there is no quick fix when it comes to repairing bad credit and fattening up your back account. Good things come to those who wait! It should also be noted that many non-reputable credit and debt consolidation services will charge you very little up front…and then slam you with fees later on down the road. Be a smart consumer and do your homework! Ask for a list of ALL FEES before working with any credit counseling service!

Non-profit credit card counseling services hire certified credit counselors. These counselors will help you by performing a complete assessment of your current financial situation. They will also review your budget and if you don’t have one…don’t worry, you soon will! A credit card counselor will also come up with a debt management plan that you can live with. The goal of the credit counselor is to help you pay down your debt while still being able to live your life. How? Well, for example, they may suggest that you consolidate all of your credit card debt so that you have more cash flow. If your situation is really bad, they may suggest filing for bankruptcy so that you can start over with a clean slate. It is important to note that credit card counselors are there to help you. They only OFFER you solutions….you have to choose which is best for you.

No doubt about it, debt is a scary thing. Thankfully, there are non profit credit card counseling services available to help get you on the right track! Once you have paid off your credit cards you will feel as if a weight has been lifted off of your shoulders! It is never too late to change your spending habits and turn your life around! Good luck!
